At first it’s important to know that why do we need a NOT TO-DO LIST as well ? Every time we plan our schedule we include all those things we required to do. But have you ever wondered that why most of us fail to follow that schedule?

It’s because at the end of day we end up doing and all those unnecessary things which we shouldn’t have done. Once you accept that you have more to do than time to do it all, that is actually a liberating concept.

This realization forces you to acknowledge there are lower priority items that you will likely never complete. Delete those non-essentials, put them on your not-to-do list, and commit to letting them go. This will prevent you from wasting precious time continually re-evaluating whether you might get to them that could be better invested in actually completing your work.

That’s why a powerful NOT TO-DO LIST will help you to overcome your own bad habits.

Now the question arises how to prepare and follow a NOT TO-DO LIST? It may sound unnecessary because you’re busy enough already but set aside a little time, half an hour at least, for creating your not-to-do-list. The productivity you gain will be well worth it. Here’s how to get started:

● ‌Take your time to make this list.

● ‌Analyze your previous activities which distracted you.

● ‌Learn to say ‘NO’ to certain things.

● ‌Add on every simple and small thing that may create a bad impact on you.

● ‌It’s totally fine if you’re not overcoming those distractions at once.

● ‌Try to make a cross mark in front of that point form NOT TO-DO LIST which you got control of. This will motivate you to follow the list further and eventually you will be able to overcome all your bad habits and distractions.

● Items that aren’t important or urgent should go on your not-to-do list.

Here presenting an example of NOT TO-DO LIST :-

● ‌Do not lie to yourself

● ‌Do not except failure as final

● ‌Do not announce your goals to everyone

● ‌Do not keep checking your social media profile

● ‌Do not keep streaming web series one by one

● ‌Do not live in your comfort zone

● ‌Do not believe there is an easy job

● ‌Do not treat opinions as facts

● ‌Do not get too attached to anything

● ‌Do not let negative thoughts overcome the positive ones

● ‌Do not complain about what you do not have

● ‌Do not try to do everything immediately

● ‌Do not have a blurry vision for your future

These were some of the important not to-do remainders. How about you? What should be on your not-to-do list? Take a piece of paper and a pen and start creating your own, then post it on your wall and make sure you stay as faithful to it as possible. Definitely add your own distractions in this list and whenever you look at your to-do list have a look at at this NOT TO DO LIST. It’s hard to focus on getting things done, but it’s only possible once we remove the constant static and distraction. If you have trouble deciding what to do, just focus on not doing. Different means, same end.

Review you not-to-do list at least once a quarter.. As you get the hang of it, you may want to add more items to the list. Who knows? Maybe someday your not-to-do list will be longer than your to-do list. Thus, this will help you to keep an eye on your distractions too.

To achieve your highest priorities, it’s important to be strategic about how you spend your time.

“People think focus means saying yes to the thing you’ve got to focus on. But that’s not what it means at all. It means saying no to the hundred other good ideas that there are. Innovation is saying no to 100 things.” — Steve Jobs

“Before you eat the elephant, make sure you know what parts you want to eat.”– Todd Stocker
